The difference between Western sculpture and Chinese sculpture needs to be analyzed from several aspects. First of all, there are essential differences between them by the public. In the West, sculptors are called sculptors. They are regarded as the same group as painters and artists, while in China, sculptors are called craftsmen and their social status. Low, only known as the general practitioners, or even rough workers. With the influx of Western sculpture, these sculpture practitioners were recognized, sculpture was listed as an important part of art, the status of Chinese sculptors was promoted, which increased the public's recognition of sculptors. This is one of the reasons why Western sculpture differs from Chinese sculpture.
Secondly, from a practical point of view, in modern times, although Chinese sculptors and Western sculptors are very similar in their creative forms, they bear different social responsibilities. In China, sculptors are still part of the traditional division of labor. Their main duties are to carve statues for temples and stones for buildings. On the one hand, they have no free space to create independently; on the other hand, their works lack the ability to intervene in social reality in terms of the objects of expression and the space in which they work. In the West, freely created sculptures in the "studio" can express their own social observation through works, and the strength of works is no less than that of contemporary painters. Western sculpture, which accepts all parts and benefits from them, can enter various public spaces in modern society, such as squares, streets and parks, and its works will naturally attract public attention. This is another reason why Western sculpture differs from Chinese sculpture.
